The pantry

From Food.com to three classes

The 2021 data bundle came from the subject staff and cannot be shared. The rebuild draws a sample of the same size and shape from a public-domain crawl of the same website.

Original

2021: the staff sample

Staff drew 40,000 training recipes (plus an unlabelled test set for Kaggle) from the Food.com crawl published by Majumder et al. (2019), and labelled each with a duration class. Every project had to cite that paper.

That crawl is hosted on Kaggle behind a login and marked “© Original Authors”, so the rebuild does not redistribute it or depend on it.

Rebuild

2026: a public-domain crawl

Food.com recipes crawled in 2020, published on Kaggle by Alvin (irkaal), released under CC0. The pipeline downloads a mirror and checks its SHA-256 before use.

Only aggregates (counts, quantiles, model weights) are published on this site. No raw recipe file is served.

Turning minutes into classes

The staff cut-offs were lost. The rebuild bins each recipe's total time (preparation plus cooking) at the round numbers that best reproduce the report's class shares.
